He then uses “topical authority” to describe how that broader authority applies to a subject such as SEO, pay-per-click advertising, or a software use case. This is his interpretation of how ranking works, not a statement established independently by the transcript; its value is that it turns a vague content ambition into a model that can be tested through pages, links, and search results.
Authority is built as a connected body of work
David’s reported playbook begins with topical authority, then adds competitive analysis and use-case analysis. A URL can change the competitive frame—but not create authority
